Corey Seager Hits Eighth Home Run Of The Year
6 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager provided all the offense his team needed to support starter Walker Buehler on Monday night. Seager hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning off Robbie Ray to lead the Dodgers to a 3-1 victory. After an underwhelming first month and a half of the season, Seager started to show some signs of a resurgence in mid-May and he's now homered in three of his past six games. He's been hitting more fly balls than ever this year, with a fly-ball rate of 44 percent compared to 27.1 percent in 2018. If he can get his strikeout rate of 19.6 percent closer to his 14.8 percent clip from last year, it would go a long way in aiding his disappointing .246 batting average on the year. The bar has been raised significantly at shortstop and Seager has been somewhat left in the dust due to the fact that he isn't a high-end power option and doesn't steal bases. Batting average is where you hope to make up ground with Seager, but he's got a long way to go to get back to the .300 hitter he was in his first two full seasons. In deep leagues, he should remain a passable low-end starter. His value is too low to shop around right now, but on the flipside if you're in the market for a backup or fill-in shortstop and can get Seager on the cheap, he's worth snatching.
