Corey Kluber Impresses During Showcase
4 years agoFree-agent right-hander Corey Kluber (shoulder) impressed during his showcase for 25 teams on Wednesday, according to a source. He threw all his secondary pitches and sat in the 88-90 mph range with his fastball. Free-agent pitchers Anthony Swarzak and Steve Cishek also threw for interested teams in Florida. Kluber commanded his pitches well and flashed typical velocity for this point in the offseason. The two-time Cy Young winner made just one start with the Rangers last year after tearing the teres major muscle in his right shoulder. Kluber also missed most of 2019 after fracturing his arm when he was hit by a line drive. The 34-year-old had a 2.85 ERA (151 ERA+) with a 10.1 K/9 in 1,091 1/3 innings from 2014-18 with Cleveland. If healthy, he'll be a major bargain in real life and fantasy leagues in 2021. A strong market is expected for Kluber after this showcase.
