Chris Sale Could Be Ready By Opening Day
2 years agoBoston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said it's "realistic" that left-hander Chris Sale (wrist) will be ready by Opening Day. Sale threw a bullpen session on Wednesday and didn't have any setbacks, so there's a possibility he'll be ready to go in Boston's starting rotation when the regular season gets underway. The 33-year-old southpaw only made two starts in 2022 due to a stress reaction in his rib cage and a fractured right wrist, but he's in line to have a relatively normal spring training. Expect the Red Sox to be extremely cautious with the oft-injured Sale, though, so don't be surprised if he's not ready to go in the first week of the season. The 33-year-old is a seven-time All-Star, but he's 33 years old now and has only 48 1/3 innings in the last three seasons. It wouldn't be wise to expect him to be a fantasy ace in 2023, especially with workload restrictions.
