Carson Williams Goes To The Rays Late In The First Round
3 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays selected Torrey Pines High School shortstop Carson Williams with the No. 28 overall pick at the end of the first round of the 2021 MLB amateur draft on Sunday. Williams is a two-way player that rose up the draft board because of his improved offensive approach. He has one of the best pure arms in this class and will land with the team with the best minor league system in baseball. Williams will be even more attractive from a fantasy perspective when he grows into his 6-foot-2 frame and adds extra-base hit power to his resume. Shortstop will be his primary position as he transitions to pro ball, but his power arm also makes him intriguing on the mound if it doesn't work out at shortstop. Williams has been compared to Jordy Mercer with more offensive upside.
