Baker Mayfield, Denzel Ward Have Fifth-Year Options Picked Up
4 years agoThe Cleveland Browns made the expected moves of picking up the fifth-year options on both of their 2018 first-round draft picks, quarterback Baker Mayfield and cornerback Denzel Ward, according to sources informed of the situation. Under the new collective bargaining agreement, fifth-year options on former first-rounders are now guaranteed. Mayfield's fifth-year option is worth $18.86 million in 2022, while Ward will make $13.294 million. Mayfield had a solid rookie campaign but struggled in 2019 before bouncing back last season to lead the team to their first playoff appearance since 2002. The former first overall pick has thrown for 11,115 yards, 75 touchdowns and 43 interceptions in his three seasons. He completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 3,563 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2020. While Mayfield isn't a high-end fantasy QB, he proved last year he can be a solid QB2 and serve as a QB1 streamer in the right matchups.
