Broncos Leaning Teddy Bridgewater Over Drew Lock?
3 years agoThe Denver Broncos are leaning towards quarterback Teddy Bridgewater over Drew Lock in the competition to be the team's Week 1 starter in 2021 against the New York Giants, in the opinion of The Denver Post's Ryan O'Halloran. The Broncos could rely on a potentially elite defense in Weeks 1-3 against the Giants, Jaguars and Jets. If Bridgewater were to win the competition, he'd be the fifth different Week 1 starting QB in as many years for Denver. Lock looked good to finish 2019, but he came crashing down to Earth last year and was tied for the league lead with 15 interceptions. Bridgewater is a former first-rounder, but after a serious knee injury in Minnesota, he has bounced around and went 4-11 with the Panthers in 2020 before they released him. Because Bridgewater has a better track record of taking care of the football, he has the leg up entering camp, but nothing is settled. Whoever wins this job has plenty of weapons, but they're unlikely to be anything more than a low-end QB2 with some low-upside streaming potential in the right matchups.
