Brewers Might Hang Onto Corbin Burnes
12 months agoThe possibility exists that the Milwaukee Brewers might hang onto right-hander Corbin Burnes for the start of the 2024 season because of owner Mark Attanasio's desire to compete and avoid the type of backlash the team received for trading closer Josh Hader at the 2022 deadline, according to major-league sources briefed on the team's thinking. The Brewers just dealt right-hander Adrian Houser and outfielder Tyrone Taylor to the New York Mets on Wednesday, which could make it easier to carry Burnes' projected $15.1 million salary. If the Brewers aren't contending, they could move Burnes at the August deadline for what could be a better return. Teams view Burnes as unlikely to sign an extension, which has kept his trade value low this winter.
