Austin Gomber Could Be Back Sooner Than Later
Austin Gomber's (forearm) issue before it became a major problem. Gomber left his June 19 start after just two innings, and his June 20 MRI exam came back clean. The left-handed pitcher is likely to start playing catch on Wednesday. Manager Bud Black said Gomber's path back to the majors could look similar to that of Jon Gray. He's expected to throw bullpen sessions before going on a minor league rehab assignment. Gray made only one rehab appearance before being slated to rejoin the rotation, so Gomber could follow that same path. It's great news for his fantasy managers, as Gomber was sporting a nice 3.68 ERA and 1.07 WHIP while striking out 76 in 78 1/3 innings pitched before landing on the injured list.
