According to Joel Sherman of The New York Post, the New York Yankees have activated shortstop Anthony Volpe (elbow) from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A. Volpe was expected to take on the starting shortstop role in the Bronx ahead of his return from injury, but the Yankees will instead keep him in the minor leagues for the time being. During his 13-game rehab assignment with Double-A and Triple-A, the former top prospect held a .250/.306/.318 slash line with one home run and two stolen bases. Volpe was held out of action early in the season while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. Last season, the infielder held a low .212 AVG but showed upside in the power and speed departments, hitting 19 home runs with swiping 18 bags. For the time being, Jose Caballero figures to be the primary shortstop and is worth adding in all standard formats.--Andy Smith
