Angels Agree With Noah Syndergaard
3 years agoThe Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Noah Syndergaard agreed to a one-year, $21 million deal on Tuesday, pending a physical, according to sources. The Angels make one of the biggest splashes in free agency with a high-upside power arm and give up a second-round pick to the New York Mets after they extended Thor a qualifying offer. The 29-year-old has missed most of the last two seasons after having Tommy John surgery in March of 2020. Right elbow inflammation set him back in June of this year, and he made just two one-inning appearances in the final week of the season. Syndergaard made just 32 starts in 2017 and 2018 due to injuries as well, and he had a 4.28 ERA with a league-high 94 earned runs allowed in 2019. When healthy, he's one of the hardest-throwing starters with plenty of strikeout upside, but he's a high-risk, high-reward signing for the Halos.
