Andrew Heaney to Pitch in Relief for the Rest of the Year
Don Kelly said that left-hander Andrew Heaney will pitch out of the bullpen for the rest of the year, according to Noah Hiles of Pittsburgh PG. It effectively kills what little fantasy value Heaney had left in 2025. The 34-year-old veteran southpaw is currently 5-10 for the Bucs with a 4.99 ERA (5.52 FIP) and 1.32 WHIP with 83 strikeouts and 38 walks in 119 innings pitched in his 24 appearances (23 starts). He has not pitched into the sixth inning since June 30 against the St. Louis Cardinals and has allowed 25 runs (23 earned) on 38 hits (10 home runs) while walking seven and striking out only 12 in 26 innings over his last seven starts. Heaney will now pitch in a long-relief role the rest of the year. It's unclear who is taking his spot in the starting rotation, but it's possible Pittsburgh will call up top pitching prospect Bubba Chandler once rosters expand next month.
