Andrew Benintendi Deal Could Happen Soon
4 years agoThe Boston Red Sox could trade outfielder Andrew Benintendi soon, but it won't be to the Miami Marlins, according to an industry source. Other teams that have checked in on Benintendi include the Texas Rangers, Houston Astros and Oakland Athletics. The Pittsburgh Pirates could also be a fit. He's entering the back half of a two-year, $10 million deal and will be arbitration-eligible for the third and final time before the 2022 season. The former first-round draft pick struggled mightily at the plate in the shortened 2020 season and has compiled a below-average 95 OPS+ since the start of the 2019 season. A change of scenery might be the best thing for the 26-year-old after he slashed an ugly .103/.314/.128 in just 14 games last year. Savvy fantasy managers will be looking to capitalize on Benintendi's reduced cost in 2021 in hopes that he can bounce back at the plate.
