Andrew Abbott Shuts Down St. Louis
Andrew Abbott yielded three hits and one earned run over seven innings in Sunday's 4-1 road win against the St. Louis Cardinals. The former second-round pick struck out three and did not walk a batter to notch his fifth quality start and improve to 7-1. All the hits against him were singles. Abbott allowed a run to cross in the bottom of the second frame, but would retire the next 18 batters he faced in another excellent showing. He boasts a superb 1.79 ERA and 0.96 WHIP through 75 1/3 innings, and has allowed one earned run or fewer in all but two of 13 starts. He'll square off against the visiting San Diego Padres later this week.
