Amari Cooper, 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Should Remain Highly Productive As Cleveland’s WR1
2 years agoThe expectations have surged for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper as he enters his second season with the team, which contrasts the diminished outlook one year ago. Cooper's ADP plunged two rounds in best ball leagues after Dallas traded the eight-year veteran to the Browns in March of 2022 as uneasiness emerged surrounding his ability to maintain the usage and output that he had secured while operating with Dak Prescott. All concern dissipated as Cooper flourished with Jacoby Brissett guiding Cleveland's offense from Weeks 1-12, as Cooper finished eighth in points per game (13.5) and ninth in targets (93/8.5 per game/26.6% share). He was also fifth in air yards (1,172) and finished among the top 13 in receptions (57/5.2 per game), receiving yards (792/72 per game), and targets per route run (26.7%). Cooper's averages decreased to 6.5 targets/3.5 receptions/61.3 yards per game with Deshaun Watson under center from Weeks 13-18, although Watson's effectiveness was impacted by his extended absence. Watson should perform more proficiently, and the Browns should increase their reliance on their aerial attack after ranking 24th in pass play percentage (52.3%) and 26th in first down pass percentage (52.0%). Cooper will operate as Watson's primary receiving option, and his prospects of sustaining WR2 production for fantasy managers make him worthy of selection at his Round 4 ADP in best ball leagues (43/WR17). He is also a viable resource for dynasty league rosters built to win this season.
