Alek Manoah Not Ready To Compete
1 year agoToronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah, an All-Star a year ago, has been shut down for the rest of the season after struggling and being sent to the minor leagues two separate times. "At the current time he feels like he's not ready to compete so we're going to respect that and kind of move on from it," manager John Schneider said. "We've been working through every decision with him together as a group and respecting his requests along the way." The 25-year-old former first-rounder last pitched for the Blue Jays on Aug. 10, and the team claimed he had undergone physical testing, although the specifics haven't been revealed. It's been a bizarre fall for a big arm. In his 19 starts for Toronto in 2023, he went 3-9 with a 5.87 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 79 K's in 87 1/3 innings. It's impossible to know what to expect from Manoah in 2024 right now, but obviously his stock has fallen drastically.
