New Jersey Devils goaltender Akira Schmid stopped 35-of-36 shots on goal in Saturday's 2-1 overtime victory against the Rangers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference first-round series. The Devils turned to rookie netminder Schmid for his first career NHL playoff start after starting goaltender Vitek Vanecek surrendered nine goals through the opening two games of the series. Schmid had a terrific performance and surrendered only one goal in the contest to Rangers forward Chris Kreider.
