ANALYSIS: Chicago's hopes of watching postseason basketball this season rely entirely on making it to the play-in portion of the playoffs, and most probably via the 10th or ninth-best seed in the East if anything. The good news for the Bulls amid the chaos and sad campaign that has defined their season is the signing of hometown hero Patrick Beverley last month after he got cut by the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 7.
While playing for the Wolves a couple of years ago, Bev helped Minny reach the postseason for the first time since 2018. Chicago is hoping that's the case once more come May as they'd like to clinch a postseason berth after doing so last year for the first time since 2017.
Beverley has started all 50 games he's played this season for LAL/CHI. He split time between the one and the two-guard positions in Hollywood but he's started exclusively at the point for Chicago, which makes sense considering the alternatives aren't many--Lonzo Ball is out for the year, mind you, and Ayo Dosunmu is getting limited time.
Pat Bev hasn't been exactly great since arriving in his hometown (he signed with the Bulls instead of the Warriors even though he got an offer from the reigning champs) but he's already showed flashes of what he's still capable of doing on the hardwood.
Just last Wednesday, for example, Beverley had his best game of the season (43 FP) putting up a silly 5-10-10-4-1 stat line against he Pistons. In the five games he's played in Chicago through Saturday, Bev's approaching a 4-6-4-1-1 per-game line. That's not league-winning material, but he's doing a little bit of everything to help the fantasy GMs out there who trust his game.
Beverley's usage rate sucks and he's not going to attempt more than five shots a pop on any given day. He can hit the three, but you can't really think about getting more than one or two such hits per game if any. The percentages are usually good, though, and Beverley visits the charity stripe a few times per game connecting on most of the freebies.
