NBA DFS Prop Picks for Friday (1/1/21) - Monkey Knife Fight

Jake Finnen provides his NBA DFS prop picks for January 1st, 2021 on Monkey Knife Fight. Make your DFS picks with his fantasy basketball advice.

With a 10-game slate Friday, props are bountiful. The Nets and Hawks will play for the second time this week to try and recreate offensive magic after combining for over 280 points last outing. While LeBron James looks to hold off DeMar DeRozan, Dejounte Murray, and potentially LaMarcus Aldridge, if he plays through a left knee injury. The Lakers defense is still one of the top-rated defenses, so even with the added firepower from San Antonio, it's not likely to be enough to overcome a healthy Lakers team.

As for the Nets and Hawks, the waning minutes proved to be extremely disastrous for Atlanta. The fact they were able to keep the game within four-points is impressive in itself, but Kyrie Irving looked like a chess grandmaster playing against kids who don't even know what checkers are. It didn't look fair and the Nets confidence heading out of the game looked like they we're ready to play again right then and there. The Hawks are good, but Irving and Durant are way too much to handle.

With the Nuggets standing 1-3 and the Suns on the second night of a back-to-back, Michael Porter Jr. and Nikola Jokic are primed for massive stat lines since the pace of this game is going to rotate around both Nuggets stars, Devin Booker, and Chris Paul.

All Day More Or Less

Trae Young (ATL) UNDER 30.5 Points - Bradley Beal (WAS) OVER 30.5 Points

Trae Young just hit his previous over thanks to a last second layup and his pass-first attitude near the end of the game kept the Hawks within striking distance. A few more triples fall and the Hawks pull out a miracle win, but Young wasn't really able to contribute with his own scoring once the Nets started to focus on him. He is going to have another good game, but relying on John Collins to keep it close isn't to help Young surpass 30-points Friday.

The Wizards are winless and Bradley Beal has scraped or surpassed 30-points nearly every game. The Timberwolves might not have the worst defense in the league, but looking at the Wizards schedule and it's easily the worst defense they are going to face for the next week or so. The Wizards have to win here or look to go 0-10 to start the new season.

 All-Day Fantasy Challenge

Nikola Jokic (DEN) Stephen Curry (GSW) Kawhi Leonard (LAC) GOAL: 178.5

Scroll to the right and you'll see options for different types of contests, one being called the Fantasy Challenge. The Suns defense, who let up 18 points and 14 rebounds to Rudy Gobert Thursday, faces an even bigger problem with Nikola Jokic fresh and needing a win to really jumpstart his squads season. Denver is not in great position, but it's the best position Jokic could do with help from Michael Porter Jr. He will continue this campaign of compiling stats and the Suns are going to struggle to watch him and whoever else decides to chip in this game.

Stephen Curry and Kawhi Leonard somewhat speak for themselves. Curry might be playing with the Warriors worst roster construction in recent years, but that only means more production for him. The Trail Blazers currently have the worst defense in the league and are facing Curry as he is heating up. For Leonard, the Jazz play to his mid-range, stop-and-go style with their pace, so the downside is minimized especially with how well his defense has been since this contest significantly rewards defense with three-points-per-steal.

BOS-DET

Jayson Tatum (BOS) OVER 25.5 Points - Jerami Grant (DET) OVER 18.5

Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum's ability to play off one another is tremendous for winning basketball games, but for prop bets and gambling, there isn't a more annoying tandem. Tatum sets the tone nearly every game with his length, and against the Pistons there will be minimal resistance and nothing against the Pistons, but Jerami Grant is currently their best offensive and defensive player. Grant's over is safe, but this game needs to remain somewhat close for Tatum to hit his projected over. The only thing working against him is the blowout potential, which is usually not the best idea to bank on.
