RotoBaller's fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 17 (2023). Our advice on whether you should start or sit Matthew Stafford for fantasy lineups.
BALLER MOVE: Start in 10+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: QB1
ANALYSIS: Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is the QB16 for the year, averaging 16.5 fantasy points per game. The former No. 1 overall pick has had a season of two halves. He averaged one passing touchdown over the first 11 weeks, scoring fewer than 16.9 fantasy points in every contest. However, Stafford has since been on fire.
The veteran quarterback has been unstoppable lately. Over the past five weeks, Stafford has averaged 2.8 passing touchdowns and 21.8 fantasy points per game. He has thrown at least two touchdowns and scored 18.5 fantasy points in every contest. The former Georgia star has been outstanding on third down this year, totaling 12 passing touchdowns and only one interception.
On Sunday, Stafford has an appealing fantasy football matchup against the New York Giants. The NFC East team has surrendered 15.6 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks in 2023, exactly the league average. However, they’ve struggled to slow down opposing passing attacks lately. The Giants have surrendered 259.5 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 21.9 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over the past two weeks.
Fantasy players should view Stafford as a high-upside QB1 in Week 17. He has an appealing matchup and a spectacular set of weapons.
