ANALYSIS: Was Week 6 the Week of the Rookie Quarterback? I don't know about that, but writing about Fields today makes it probable as I've already penned an entry about Trevor Lawrence for this Tuesday's WW Targets blog even though he's going on a Bye with the Jags. Just imagine. Anyway, we're here to talk about Fields, and the Bears might have finally found the right way (to an extent, at least) to deploy Justin on the field.
This past weekend marked Fields' first QB2 finish of the season and the second game in a row in which he's thrown for a touchdown. Sure, the score was still low at a meh 14.3 FP on the day, but we're getting there slowly but surely. Fields passed for 16 completions (season-high) on 27 attempts (also his most so far) for 174 yards, a TD, and a pick. Now, for the best news about his game in Week 6, though: Fields rushed the ball 6 times for 43 yards on the ground. And that's precisely what we expected from Fields entering the NFL and where we might find his fantasy upside if he can keep those traits up ROS.
Fields was always talked about as a rush-prone quarterback, and he finally got to show it against the Packers last Sunday. His prior highest-yardage game on the ground came in Week 2 with 31 yards on 10 carries, but he's now doing it while also manning the pocket and passing better each week. The growing pains will remain there because they will if not for other things just because these are the Mighty Bears (duh), but Fields should be a nice enough flier to take in deeper formats, let alone 2QB one/Superflex, as a weekly starter there with upside for a couple of QB1 finishes in the second half of the season.
