BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 43% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: It's incredible that we're so close to the fantasy playoffs yet a borderline top-12 quarterback like Jared Goff can still be found available in the waiver pool of more than half of all Yahoo leagues. That's the world we live in, so you better be taking advantage of the bug in the system if you happen to have an underperforming QB or are still streaming the position with the remaining teams yet to go on a bye.
The Lions might welcome (we have to assume) rookie Jameson Williams as soon as this week. DJ Chark Jr. returned (to play more than 11 snaps) last TNF, Josh Reynolds played while tagged "questionable" but he should be fit going forward, and Amon-Ra St. Brown and Kalif Raymond are already there and ready. Yes, T.J. Hockenson got traded away, but it's not that Goff is lacking weapons and offensive options.
Goff, by the way, put up his best fantasy tally of the season since Week 8 and his fourth-best overall this year (he's played all 11 Lions' games to date) last Thanksgiving while hosting Buffalo. Goff completed 23 passes out of 37 attempts for 240 yards and 2 TDs without getting intercepted.
The veteran QB has completed three games in a row without throwing a pick and he's done so in four of his last five outings. In that five-week span, he's completed 100-of-152 passes (20-of-30 on a per-game average, 66.5%+ completion rate) with a 6-to-1 TD-to-INT ratio. He only missed on throwing a touchdown in Week 11.
While the first half of the season (W1-W4) was better for Goff than the second, he might be getting hot at the perfect moment with the playoffs inching closer and the Lions receivers getting healthier at the same time.
It's now been four-of-five weeks inside the top 20 quarterbacks for Goff including a borderline QB1-level finish this past week, his first since Week 4. I wouldn't count on Goff as my main QB in any sort of shallow format (say, 10 teams) but I would seriously consider him in any 12+ team league for the home stretch, let alone 2QB/Superflex leagues when he's still available for free.
