James Washington is a potential fantasy football wide receiver draft sleeper for the 2020 NFL season. Target him is a late round WR value pick in fantasy drafts.
BALLER MOVE: Target Around ~190 Overall
CURRENT ADP: 220+ (Undrafted)
ANALYSIS: Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver James Washington will open the season as the team's WR3. The once top-rated prospect has lost a lot of momentum due to the emergence of trendy sleeper Diontae Johnson and the drafting of Canadian Chase Claypool. However, there is reason to be optimistic in 2020.
Last season, the 24-year-old averaged the fifth-most air yards per target in the league. Although this led to disappointing production, second and third-string quarterbacks rarely have the accuracy and ability to support big-play threats like Washington. Washington came on strong at the end of the 2019 season and should benefit from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger being back under center for the team.
If Ben Roethlisberger comes back healthy this season, Washington might have the quarterback play he needs for a potential third-year breakout. Washington draws a plus matchup against the New York Giants in Week 1 of the season. The Giants were one of the most generous teams in the league when it came to allowing wide receiver production in 2019, so Washington has a chance to get off to a fast start.
The main concern is just how many targets Washington will draw this season as he is likely the No. 3 option in the passing game behind JuJu Smith-Schuster and Diontae Johnson. Washington shapes up as a low-end WR4/flex option in Week 1's opener, and is well worth the upside to add to your bench as a WR4/WR5 late in drafts. His cost is almost nothing, and we've seen what a high-flying offense the Steelers can be with Big Ben healthy and rolling.
