BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 42% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Having a QB2-level performance tossing the ball to Chris Olave doesn't sound like a bad outing. Doing so while not having the likes of Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry for the full game--nor pretty much anybody else, for that matter – might paint an even better landscape of Jameis Winston's talents. And that is what happened last Sunday.
I'm not here to say Winston absolutely destroyed Carolina. Far from it. Winston, in fact, could only put up 14.6 FP against the Panthers in a good-not-great game in which he completed 61% of his 41 pass attempts (25) although reaching a season-high 353 yards while at it. The good: that yardage, and tossing one touchdown. The bad: gifting way a couple of interceptions and fumbling twice.
That's Winston for you, though, so this news might not even be news at all, let alone anything you didn't already know about the veteran quarterback. To that, though, I must say that Winston has been one of the better and most reliable QBs of the early season. Yes, he's only the QB16 in total FP through Week 3, but he's been able to keep his vitality down to only the 12th-largest among QBs with at least 50+ pass attempts.
The Saints were without Thomas and Landry for a large part of the game played on Sunday, so Winston ended that game targeting Olave 13 times... and the combination of Tre'Quan Smith/Thomas/Landry 15 times (5 targets each). It took monster games by Olave and Smith to help Winston put up those 353 yards, yes, but Winston didn't really get much help by way of TDs.
Don't chase Winston crazily, but keep in him in mind in slightly deeper formats and definitely roster/start him in 2QB/Superflex leagues.
