ANALYSIS: Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown had a disappointing debut season in Kansas City as he missed the vast majority of the season due to a shoulder injury. He appeared in only two regular-season games and caught just nine passes for 91 yards.
However, after a full offseason, the former first-round pick appeared poised for a massive bounce-back season. With Rashee Rice missing the first six games of the season due to a suspension, Brown had a clear path to be the team's No. 2 WR opposite second-year receiver Xavier Worthy.
Brown saw his role increase much earlier than expected in Week 1 as Worthy suffered a dislocated shoulder on the team's opening drive. Once Worthy left the game, Brown became Patrick Mahomes' go-to option as he saw an incredible 16 targets. He caught 10 of them for 99 yards, with his longest reception going for 49 yards.
In this game, Brown saw 11 more targets than the No. 2 WR JuJu Smith-Schuster and 12 more targets than the top tight end, Travis Kelce.
With Worthy expected to miss a significant portion of the season and Rice still sidelined for the next five games, fantasy managers should view Brown as a priority target. While his ceiling will be limited once Rice returns, he could still carry high-end flex value, especially if Worthy were to miss the vast majority of the remaining season.
