Week 9 Wide Receiver Rankings Outlooks
Courtland Sutton, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton will face a stingy Houston Texans defense in Week 9, with Kamari Lassiter likely to cover him in the majority of plays. Through Week 8, the Texans have only allowed 178.4 passing yards per game and six touchdowns.
While that doesn't leave much volume to go around for the Broncos' offensive weapons, Sutton should still look to be a focal point in the offense as the true alpha wide receiver. Offensive weapon Marvin Mims Jr. (concussion) was also ruled out in Week 9 with a concussion, likely allowing more targets to go to the rest of the receiving core. As RotoBaller's 24th-ranked wide receiver for Week 9, Sutton should still be profiled as a healthy WR2 for lineups.
Jameson Williams, Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has been one of the more disappointing players in fantasy so far this season, recording 17 catches for 289 yards and two touchdowns on 30 targets across seven games. In his final outing before Detroit's Week 8 bye, the 24-year-old was held without a catch on two targets by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Coming out of the bye week, Lions offensive coordinator John Morton told reporters he's looking to get Williams more involved in the team's offense. That may be difficult to do in Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings, who have allowed the fourth-fewest passing yards (1,428) in the NFL through eight weeks. Williams was held in check by Minnesota across two games in 2024, recording seven catches for 30 yards on nine targets. He profiles as a low-end, boom/bust WR3/flex option for fantasy managers in Week 9.
Brian Thomas Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. (shoulder) was limited in practice all week but has been cleared from Friday's final injury report and will be active for the Week 9 contest on Sunday against the hosting Las Vegas Raiders. Thomas injured his shoulder in London in the loss to the Los Angeles Rams before the team's Week 8 bye, and he's still battling through it.
However, he will suit up this weekend as the Jags' WR1 with rookie first-round receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter (knee) on injured reserve. Jacksonville will look for receivers Parker Washington and Dyami Brown to step up with Hunter sidelined for the foreseeable future. Still, it should also mean a more consistent target share for Thomas, who is currently in a sophomore slump (one touchdown) after breaking out as a rookie. Thomas should be viewed as a WR2 with upside this week against the Raiders.
