Fantasy Football Tight End Player Outlooks

George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers playmaker George Kittle has been one of the most reliable fantasy tight ends over the last few years. He has finished top 5 at the position in six of the past seven seasons and is coming off one of his better fantasy campaigns in 2024. Kittle finished as the TE3 in PPR formats and averaged 15.8 PPR fantasy points per game. That 15.8 average ranked first among all tight ends last year. The 31-year-old caught 78 passes for 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns in 15 games for the 49ers.

As we head into the 2025-2026 season, Kittle should remain a strong TE1 option for managers. He scored at least 14 PPR fantasy points in 11 of 15 contests last year, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him repeat those fantasy numbers this season. Deebo Samuel Sr. was traded this offseason, and Brandon Aiyuk (knee) is coming off a season-ending ACL injury. Therefore, we could see the veteran up his 22% target share from last year. That all makes him a perfect target early in 2025 fantasy football drafts.

Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta had an explosive inaugural year, catching 86 of his 120 targets for 889 yards. He also had 10 touchdowns, the most in the National Football League at the position. As a result, LaPorta was one of the first tight ends selected in most fantasy leagues entering the 2024-25 season. Unfortunately, the 2023 No. 34 overall pick wasn't as potent in his sophomore campaign. LaPorta amassed 60 receptions (83 targets) for 726 yards while finding the end zone seven times.

Granted, things could have been much worse. Still, LaPorta wasn't nearly as consistent from a production standpoint. He had at least five catches in 10 games in his first season. Yet, LaPorta had five grabs or more in only five contests last season. With that in mind, fantasy managers wonder if the 24-year-old can turn things around.

There's certainly reason to believe he can. However, the Lions' offense is loaded, with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs always in the Pro Bowl conversation, meaning they will continue to command attention. In addition, Jameson Williams is coming off his first 1,000-yard receiving season, and David Montgomery should also get his touches, especially inside the 20-yard line. With all things considered, including Detroit having one of the toughest schedules this season, LaPorta may have a tough time getting back to where he was as a rookie.

However, the former Iowa Hawkeye remains one of the best options at the tight end spot, regardless of format, and he has the potential to be more productive than Brock Bowers, Trey McBride, and George Kittle, to name a few. LaPorta comes in as RotoBaller's TE4 heading into the upcoming fantasy football drafts.

Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews had a curious 2024 season. He saw a decrease in usage and only registered a 14.5% target share per Fantasy Points Data Suite. Andrews' raw stats also weren't great. He only caught 55 receptions for 673 receiving yards. However, his fantasy value was buoyed by a career-high 11 receiving touchdowns.

The emergence of wide receiver Rashod Bateman and fellow tight end Isaiah Likely may have played a role in Andrews' usage. He was also coming off a major injury suffered during the 2023 season. Perhaps the team did not want to overwork him coming off an injury. Regardless, Andrews would have been a major fantasy bust last year if not for his incredible touchdown luck.

He is a major regression candidate in this area for 2025. Unless his good touchdown luck continues, Andrews will need to see his role increase if he hopes to be more than a streaming tight end this year. Currently being drafted as the TE7 in NFFC drafts, Andrews is not an ideal target as a TE1. There are many questions surrounding his 2024 and what it means for the upcoming season. If you plan on drafting Andrews this year, it might be wise to select another tight end later in your draft.

David Njoku, Cleveland Browns

Like many of the Cleveland Browns' offensive skill players in 2024, David Njoku didn't begin posting fantasy-viable stat lines until former teammate Jameis Winston took the reins at quarterback following Deshaun Watson's (Achilles) injury in Week 7. From then until Week 14 (the week before Winston's final start), Njoku was the PPR TE4. Over that stretch, he averaged 16.4 fantasy points per game, putting him right in line with the Cardinals' Trey McBride (16.6) and Miami's Jonnu Smith (16.5).

The 28-year-old has proven over the prior two campaigns that he can produce with the best of his position-mates. However, injuries and QB play have been an issue. In addition to a knee injury that forced him from the final two games of last year, he missed three with an ankle sprain early on and dealt with a hamstring ailment. At this time, veteran Joe Flacco would be the best for his value, but not a long-term solution for Cleveland.

It seems likely that one of Dillon Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, or Shedeur Sanders could be manning the helm by season's end. Fortunately, Njoku is still a top-two target on this team next to wideout Jerry Jeudy, and should be able to fend off new acquisitions WR Diontae Johnson, and rookie TE Harold Fannin Jr. He has all the physical gifts to dominate the position, but his output will largely depend on who eventually gets the job at QB.
