FanDuel MLB DFS Lineup Picks (5/24/21): Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice

Brandon Woodruff - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

Mike Marteny highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for 5/24/21, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

We have eight games today, but the Jays and Rays end the wraparound weekend series in Dunedin for the matinee, so that game is off of the FanDuel main slate. So are those jerks in Miami that thumbed their nose at MLB and start a half hour earlier than everyone else on the East coast. That leaves six games for the main slate tonight. Don't worry. We still have some decent options out there.

We could see some rain in Minneapolis, which is unfortunate since the wind is blowing out at 12 mph to left field with a lefty on the mound for Baltimore. We will also have a nice breeze out to left in New York for the Mets-Rockies game as well. As of now, the Twins game looks like it will play, but a delay of some sort is very possible.

I'll be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for the FanDuel main slate on 5/24/2021. Be sure to also check out all the MLB player news, including late scratches, and the projected and confirmed daily MLB lineups for each DFS slate. You can also check out today's DraftKings MLB DFS lineup picks, and read more DFS advice and lineup picks for other sports too. Let's get to it!

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Cash Game/GPP Anchor Play:

Brandon Woodruff – MIL vs. SD ($10,700)

Woodruff has been slightly less dominant at home this season, but don't let that deter you. The Padres had a good offensive series in Seattle, but they also mostly lit up lefties. Woodruff picked up 46 FanDuel points against San Diego in Petco Park back on April 19. Woodruff has only allowed seven earned runs in eight starts since allowing three to the Twins on Opening Day. We have no reason to think that the Padres can tag him here. He has the best strikeout potential on the slate, even if this isn't quite the best matchup.

Potential Alternate Play

David Peterson – NYM vs COL ($8,000)

I would be on Yusei Kikuchi again today if his start hadn't been pushed back because he wasn't feeling well. I'll gladly take Peterson against one of the worst road teams in the league. After a disastrous start in Philly on April 7, Peterson has not allowed more than three earned runs in any game since. The Rockies have hit lefties well this year, but they are only hitting .209 with a .300 SLG on the road this season. That's pathetic. The Rockies are also 2-17 on the road, so Peterson has a great chance at a win. There is a lot of potential here for GPP's.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

Miguel Sano – 1B, MIN vs. BAL ($2,800)

Sano was absolutely dreadful to start the 2021 campaign, and the .183 batting average still paints a bad picture. However, Sano has hit six of his eight home runs on the season in the last ten games. Sano has only drawn the collar twice in that span and has only been held scoreless in DFS once. This is the time that we want to play him. I do think that John Means still has a solid start here, but the wind is blowing out to right and the Baltimore bullpen isn't very good. Play the long game and ride the hot bat of Sano. If anyone gets to Means, it will likely be him.

Cesar Hernandez – 2B, CLE at DET ($2,700)

Cleveland is off to a rough start in just about every aspect of baseball so far this season, but the offense got a little boost facing a bad Minnesota pitching staff. This could be the key to getting the offense going. Hernandez has 46.8 FanDuel points over the last two games and has topped 20 FanDuel points three times in the last six games. He is batting leadoff for a lineup that is starting to hit and is priced right. I'll take it.

Jonathan Villar – 2B/SS/3B, NYM vs. COL ($2,800)

Villar has had a rough start to 2021 as well, but he is showing signs of turning it around lately. Facing a pitching machine like Austin Gomber can only help. Villar has three homers and two steals in the last ten days and it batting leadoff for a lineup that has a lot of potential today. Villar's career splits are almost identical against lefties and righties, but Gomber has been one of the worst qualifying pitchers so far this year. We need value if we're paying for Woodruff. Villar provides that with some good potential behind it.

Freddy Galvis – 2B/SS, BAL at MIN ($2,500)

Matt Shoemaker has been awful this season and the bullpen behind him is almost as bad. This whole Baltimore team has been hitting well lately. Galvis has double-digit FanDuel points in five of the last six games. Shoemaker's ERA is nearly four runs higher at Target Field this year and today we'll have among the best hitting conditions we've had in Minneapolis this season so long as the rain stays away. Shoemaker should be praying for rain. If this plays, I'm stacking Orioles.

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Robbie Grossman – OF, DET vs. CLE ($2,900)

If you're looking for what kick-started the Tigers offense, look no further than the leadoff man. Grossman has eight hits in his last four games with a homer, four runs, and two RBI. Detroit has struggled against lefties this year, but Sam Hentges wont go deep into the game anyway. Grossman is one of the few Tigers that has held his own against southpaws. He's the only one in this lineup that I really trust, but this Detroit lineup has sneaky upside today and is dirt cheap.

Anthony Santander – OF, BAL at MIN ($2,500)

The month off served Santander well. He is 6-13 with two doubles, a homer, three runs scored, and two RBI in the three games since his return. Baltimore is rotating their outfielders right now, but Santander seems immune to that rotation. He's a switch hitter with even splits. He's hitting in the middle of an order that has a ton of upside today. He's getting something off of this Minnesota staff tonight.

Johneshwy Fargas – OF, NYM vs. COL ($2,100)

Fargas has had a solid start to his career with six hits in 20 tries, but he doesn't have a lot of crooked numbers. Yet. Austin Gomber may change that. Fargas has a lot of speed, but hasn't tried to showcase it at the major league level yet. Colorado allows a lot of steals just like everything else, so Fargas has that going for him as well. He has been on base in five of his six career games. That shouldn't be an issue tonight either.
