NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 12/2/23

We have finally made it! The 2023-2024 season is upon us and we welcome the next generational talent, Connor Bedard, to the front and center! With many big moves over the offseason -- Karlsson to Pittsburgh -- and many signings during free agency, this season will make for yet another interesting race to Lord Stanley!

Tonight we have a nine-game slate and just one team playing on a back-to-back, Ottawa. The currently live top-three highest implied team totals are: Carolina with 4, Colorado with 4 and Pittsburgh with 3.8. I will do my best to guide you through this nine-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. ED

DISCLOSURE: Make sure to monitor the NHL news feeds for the latest player status and injury news.

DraftKings and FanDuel Goalies - NHL DFS Picks

Thatcher Demko - DK $7.5K || FD $8.3K

Opponent - Calgary Flames

Demko is primed for a big performance tonight. The netminder has the best Goals Saved Above Expected Per 60 on the slate and Calgary is in the top ten in Shots For Per 60 and they sit just outside the bottom ten in Goals For Per 60. This sets up Demko to have one of the top floors from save volume alone. With a few different goalies offering slate-breaking value, Demko is the ‘creme of the crop’. Over his last five starts, he has a 3-2 record with a 2.2 Goals Against Average and a 0.927 Save Percentage.                    Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):

  • Jarry (DK $8.3K || FD $8.1K)
  • Hart (DK $7.1K || FD $7.2K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Centers - NHL DFS Picks

Josh Norris - DK $5.4K || FD $5.9K

Opponent - Seattle Kraken

If there is one team that is a mix of bad defense and goaltending, it is Seattle. Over their last five games, excluding splits, they are averaging three Goals Against Per 60. Despite Norris and the Senators entertaining a rough patch of form and coming off a 4-2 loss in Columbus last night, this is a perfect bounce-back game. Over Norris’s last five games, he has one goal, two assists, 12 shots and four blocked shots.

Jack Eichel - DK $8K || FD $8.7K

Opponent - Washington Capitals

Somehow and in some way, Washington has managed to pull off win after win despite their team looking less and less cohesive and the constant drama circling them. However, a week ago, Edmonton brought them back down to Earth and it is only a matter of time until another team does the same. Vegas also has strung together wins with a lack of chemistry and a constant revolving door of players on all four lines. The major difference between the two is Vegas may have found a recipe for success with their most recent lineup changes.

Eichel has a shoot-happy winger in Mark Stone on his line and a playmaker in Ivan Barbashev. This gives him the best of both worlds and he and the rest of the trio are expected to see Washington’s two worst defensive lines. In the center’s last five outings, he has two goals, three assists, 24 shots and three blocked shots.                      Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Crosby (DK $7.5K || FD $9.5K)
  • Kotkaniemi (DK $4.4K || FD $5.2K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Wings - NHL DFS Picks

Mark Stone - DK $5.3K || FD $6K

Opponent - Washington Capitals

Keeping it in Vegas, Mark Stone has been promoted to the top line – aforementioned above – and once the chemistry is there, the dividends will come too. Since his role change, in two games, he has one goal, one assist, five shots and one blocked shot. In the five games prior, he had one assist, nine shots and three blocked shots. A small sample size, yes, however, this is only a glimpse at what both Stone and linemate Jack Eichel can do together.

Andrei Svechnikov - DK $4.9K || FD $4.9K

Opponent - Buffalo Sabres

Svechnikov makes it for another round in the article and hopefully this time he actually plays – missed last time due to the flu –. The winger has one goal, four assists, 15 shots and one blocked shot in his last five games. Luckily for him, his shot volume at a minimum should be attainable in a quick-paced meeting with the Sabres and their two worst defensive lines. Playing on a line that has teammates Teuvo Teravainen and Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Svechnikov is the primary shooter and producer to drive the line. It is expected that he will see the majority of the chances the second line produces tonight.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • DeBrincat (DK $7.8K || FD $7.8K)
  • Marner (DK $6.7K || FD $7.2K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Defensemen - NHL DFS Picks

Hampus Lindholm - DK $3.4K || FD $4.1K

Opponent - Toronto Maple Leafs

There are not many options in terms of pure value at defense tonight, however, Lindholm is one of the closest to it. He will not only be playing in a heated rivalry with the Toronto Maple Leafs, he has also been promoted to the top pairing with teammate Charlie McAvoy. In the past five games, Lindholm has one assist, seven shots and four blocked shots. With dignity on the line and a fast-paced rivalry, Lindholm should ‘easily’ maintain value.

Filip Hronek - DK $5.2K || FD $6.5K

Opponent - Calgary Flames

Defensemen who are $5K or more on DraftKings typically do not get featured in the article, however, it is nearly impossible to pass on Hronek right now. Throughout his last five performances, he has one goal, four assists, 13 shots and four blocked shots. He is also one point shy of averaging a point per game this season. Surprisingly, Hronek is not blocking as many shots lately, however, Calgary always provides ample opportunity for the opposition to do just that. Whether he records a point or not, his peripherals alone should maintain value. Also, keep in mind that Hronek now co-quarterbacks the top power-play with linemate Quinn Hughes.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Chabot (DK $4.8K || FD $5K)
  • Dunn (DK $4.4K || FD $6.2K)
