Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

5043 articles

You won't find a bigger Cubs fan than myself. Aside from my love of fantasy sports, which includes MLB, NFL and NBA, I own my own animal care business. I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago and currently reside in Chicago, IL. My love of fantasy sports started for me in the early 2000's and I have steadily been active with the same group of friends year in and year out for every league in baseball, basketball and football. I am hoping to help all RotoBaller members with any questions they may have. I consider myself an expert with minor league prospects, as it is a love of mine. I hope to give the best advice I can to the RotoBaller world!

Carl Edwards Jr. Plays Catch On Friday

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. (shoulder) played catch on Friday. If Edwards feels good after Friday, his next step could be to throw off of a mound. Edwards has been on the disabled list since May 30 with inflammation in his right shoulder. Edwards remains a good bullpen option for owners seeking holds […]

Cubs Will Rest Willson Contreras Friday

The Chicago Cubs will rest catcher Willson Contreras on Friday. Contreras has been in a big slump and has just seven hits over his last 38 at-bats. Chris Gimenez will bat eighth and play catcher on Friday. Contreras should return to the lineup on Saturday.

Trayce Thompson Designated For Assignment By White Sox

The Chicago White Sox have designated outfielder Trayce Thompson for assignment on Friday. Thompson has hit just .117 over 128 at-bats this season with three home runs. Thompson got many opportunities to make his case, but didn’t make the most out of them.

Leury Garcia Activated From Disabled List

The Chicago White Sox have activated infielder/outfielder Leury Garcia (knee) from the disabled list. Garcia missed close to a month with a left knee sprain. Garcia has looked good when he gets starts, but he doesn’t get enough of them to make him worth owning in most formats at this time.

Avisail Garcia Activated From Disabled List On Friday

Chicago White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia (hamstring) has been activated from the disabled list on Friday. Garcia missed close to two months with a Grade 2 hamstring injury. Garcia has struggled this year, but he hit .360 on his rehab assignment over 25 at-bats. Garcia will return to an everyday role with the White Sox and […]

Mark Melancon Records His First Save Thursday

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Mark Melancon recorded his first save of the season Thursday versus the Padres. Melancon allowed one hit and struck out one in his outing. Since closer Hunter Strickland (hand) landed on the disabled list, Melancon, Reyes Moronta and Sam Dyson have all recorded saves. Melancon was signed to a big […]

Madison Bumgarner Dominates Thursday Versus The Padres

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner threw eight shutout innings Thursday night versus the San Diego Padres. It was Bumgarner’s fourth start of the season and it offered his best results. Bumgarner gave up just three hits and walked two batters while striking out eight. Bumgarner will look to keep it going Wednesday versus […]

Jason Heyward Continues To Perform Well

Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward continues to perform well. Heyward went 4-for-5 on Thursday with a run scored. Heyward has struggled offensively over the last two seasons, but is now hitting .283 on the season. He is worth consideration in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues as long as he continues to hit.

Kyle Hendricks Allows Four Runs To The Reds On Thursday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks allowed four runs versus the Reds on Thursday evening. Hendricks was cruising after five innings but struggled in the sixth inning and left after 5 2/3 innings with the bases loaded. Randy Rosario replaced Hendricks and gave up a grand slam to Jesse Winker. Hendricks is now 5-7 with […]

Johnny Cueto Set To Make Rehab Start Saturday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (elbow) will make a rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday. Cueto said he is feeling much better. The right-hander will likely need a few rehab starts before he is activated. Cueto was off to a hot start before being injured and owns a 0.84 ERA in 32 […]

Jeff Samardzija Goes Four Innings In Rehab Start

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija (shoulder) went four innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday. Samardzija allowed four hits, two runs, zero walks and struck out seven. Samardzija is having a rough season and owners should wait until Samardzija can string together a few positive starts before trusting him again.

Alen Hanson Returns Thursday

San Francisco Giants infielder Alen Hanson (knee) will be in Thursday’s lineup. Hanson left Wednesday’s game after taking a foul ball off of his knee. Hanson will be in left field and is hitting first Thursday. Hanson is worth a look in NL-only leagues with Evan Longoria (hand) sidelined.

White Sox Release Michael Saunders

The Chicago White Sox have released minor league outfielder Michael Saunders. Saunders hit just .151 over 51 plate appearances for Triple-A Charlotte. Saunders made the All-Star team in 2016 but has struggled since. The White Sox were the second organization that Saunders has been with in 2018. The outfielder will have to settle for another […]

Eloy Jimenez Promoted To Triple-A

Chicago White Sox outfield prospect Eloy Jimenez has been promoted to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday. Jimenez dominated Double-A pitching and hit .317 with 10 home runs and 42 RBI over 205 at-bats. Jimenez remains one of the most exciting prospects in the game and should be stashed in all formats. Jimenez has a good chance […]

White Sox And Athletics Postponed Thursday

The Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics game on Thursday has been postponed due to rain Thursday. The teams will make up Thursday's game on Friday as part of a doubleheader. Remove any players from your lineups that might've been playing in this one.

Sam Dyson Struggles Wednesday

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Sam Dyson struggled to pick up the save Wednesday versus the Marlins. Over two-thirds of an inning, Dyson allowed two runs and four hits. Dyson picked up the save on Tuesday with Hunter Strickland (hand) placed on the disabled list, and manager Bruce Bochy said on Tuesday that Dyson would […]

Reyes Moronta Picks Up The Save Wednesday

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Reyes Moronta picked up his first save Wednesday versus the Marlins. Moronta came in with two outs and secured a Giants victory after Sam Dyson allowed two runs. Moronta has had a nice season and has a 1.91 ERA, but is unlikely to see many save chances with Dyson, Tony […]

Alen Hanson Suffers Left Knee Contusion

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants infielder Alen Hanson left Wednesday’s contest with a left knee contusion. Hanson fouled a ball off of his knee and was in significant pain. He was replaced by infielder Kelby Tomlinson. More should be known about how long Hanson will be out on Thursday.

Alen Hanson Exits Early Wednesday

San Francisco Giants infielder Alen Hanson left Wednesday’s contest early after he fouled a ball off his leg. Infielder Kelby Tomlinson came in to finish the at-bat and stayed in the game. Tomlinson can be avoided in all formats. More should be know on Hanson’s status following Wednesday’s game.

Buster Posey Absent From Wednesday’s Lineup

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey will have Wednesday afternoon off versus the Miami Marlins. It’s just a routine day off for Posey. Nick Hundley will be behind the plate on Wednesday and will bat fifth. Hundley has eight home runs on the season and isn’t a bad dart throw in DFS on Wednesday.

Andrew McCutchen Sitting On Wednesday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Andrew McCutchen will rest Wednesday versus the Miami Marlins. It’s just a day of rest for the veteran, and he will be replaced by Hunter Pence, who will bat seventh. Pence has struggled and could be avoided in DFS on Wednesday.

Yu Darvish Throws Simulated Game On Wednesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish (triceps) threw 51 pitches during a simulated game on Wednesday. By all accounts, Darvish looked good in his outing. The Cubs will wait until Thursday to determine if Darvish will make a minor league start or throw another simulated game.

Addison Russell Out Of Wednesday’s Starting Lineup

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell is absent from the lineup card Wednesday. Russell has been hitting the ball well after a slow start, but his lack of run production has lowered his value to fantasy owners. Second baseman Javier Baez will slide over to shortstop Wednesday and Ben Zobrist will be at second base. Russell […]

Hunter Strickland Out With Fractured Hand

San Francisco Giants closer Hunter Strickland (hand) is out six to eight weeks after punching a door following his blown save Monday night. Relievers Tony Watson and Sam Dyson make the likeliest candidates to replace Strickland while he is absent and both are worth adding for owners who are chasing saves. However, this could be […]

Albert Almora Jr. Drives In The Winning Run Tuesday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Albert Almora Jr. played the hero for the Cubs with a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 10th. Kris Bryant led off the inning with a triple and then Javier Baez was intentionally walked. Almora then hit a rocket into right field for the game-winning hit. Almora finished the game […]

Mike Montgomery Puts Together Another Quality Start

Chicago Cubs pitcher Mike Montgomery put together another strong performance on Tuesday versus the Dodgers. Montgomery went six innings and allowed five hits, one run, four walks and struck out five. The walks were Montgomery’s only downfall on the evening and over five starts, the left-hander has yet to allow more than a run. Montgomery […]

Kyle Schwarber Hits A Solo Home Run Tuesday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday evening. Schwarber is now hitting .241 with 13 home runs and 33 RBI. Schwarber is unlikely to draw many starts versus left-handed pitchers but is worth owning in all formats.

Yoan Moncada Picks Up A Pair Of Hits Tuesday

Chicago White Sox second baseman Yoan Moncada finished Tuesday’s game 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI. Moncada has been in a cold streak, but has now hit safely in his last three games. Owners should be patient with Moncada, as he has 20/20 potential and will be given a long leash by the […]

Carlos Rodon Suffers His Second Loss On Tuesday

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Carlos Rodon picked up his second loss of the season Tuesday. It was Rodon’s third start of the season since returning from shoulder surgery and his first start in which he went more than five innings. Over 6 1/3 innings, Rodon allowed five hits, four runs, two walks and struck […]

Brandon Morrow Out With Back Tightness

Chicago Cubs closer Brandon Morrow (back) was unavailable on Tuesday due to back tightness. Justin Wilson got a save opportunity in Game 1 but gave up two runs and suffered the loss. Morrow is considered day-to-day. Wilson, Pedro Strop and Steve Cishek are all candidates to get saves with Morrow out.
