Terrace Marshall is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for wide receivers. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 4 of the 2021 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 15% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: This is more of a bet than a solid addition at this point, but we might be getting there slowly but surely. Nobody is going to label Terrace Marshall Jr. as more than a low-end receiver playing a secondary role for the Panthers... until he forces folks to. See, the rookie has played more than 50% of Carolina's offensive snaps through Week 3. He's gone from 34 to 39 to 44 his last time out against Houston on TNF. The numbers have yet to get a bit up, but the progress and the opportunities are definitely there.
Marshall isn't your big eater receiver. In three games he's topped at 6 targets (W1) and he's averaging some measly 6.4 FPPG in PPR-format leagues. That's not very good, I know. But Marshall has been able to catch 3, 3, and 4 of his 14 total targets so far this season in each of the three matches he's played, and facing Houston he finally broke for more than 40 yards finishing at 48 with an average YPR of 12.0. Not bad, and definitely an improvement from his 26- and 17-yard efforts of the prior two weeks.
So far this season, on-paper WR2 Robby Anderson has been kind of a disaster for the Panthers. DJ Moore is the top dog in the pecking order. Other than those two, though, Brandon Zylstra and Terrace Marshall Jr. (a second-round pick from the last draft, keep in mind that high draft capital) are the ones battling for that third spot. Marshall is clearly edging Zylstra so far with 117 snaps to the latter's 45 through W3. Positive regression must be right around the corner for Marshall, whose 8.8 YPR on a 71% Catch Rate are clearly going in nonsensical opposite directions (Marshall's YPR mark is the sixth-lowest among WR with 14+ targets). I'd advise rostering Marshall now that he's still widely available, as the minute he hits a WR2/WR1 finish (it's surely coming) he will fly off the WW of every slightly deeper fantasy league.
