The Montreal Canadiens selected defenseman Alexander Romanov with the 38th overall pick in the 2018 NHL draft. With two picks early in the second round, Montreal was looking to add scoring and defense, and with Romanov they may be getting both. The 5-foot-11 left-handed defenseman from Russia is at his best in transition and is a strong passer. He has not put up tremendous offensive numbers, scoring only 14 points in 37 games in the MHL this past season. As the NHL continues to value smaller, quick defensemen that excel in transition more, Romanov could find a place on Montreal's blue line in a couple years.--Russ Ivanac - RotoBallerRead More News
