The slump for tight ends luckily lasted just one week. Tight ends had a nice turnaround in Week 2 after no tight end had more than 75 receiving yards in any Week 1 game, but that does not mean that fantasy owners won't be scouring their league’s waiver wires for help this week.

If anything it means there will be more available tight ends to choose from since some fantasy free agents had good games this past weekend. Here are three tight ends to consider picking up on the waiver wire this week.

Week 3 Waiver Wire - Tight Ends (TE)

Jacob Tamme, Atlanta Falcons

Tamme has a reputation as a solid fantasy play when the Falcons are home at the Georgia Dome, but he also tends to put up the stats of a blocking tight end when he goes on the road.  Tamme drowned that theory in the river this past weekend by catching five passes for 75 yards and touchdown at Oakland.

This sets up Tamme to be a great pickup this week since Atlanta plays division rival New Orleans at the Superdome on Monday night.  We know the Saints barely bother playing defense, we know Tamme posts decent numbers inside domes, and now we know Tamme can score a TD somewhere other than Atlanta.

Look for Tamme to be one of the most popular tight ends on your league’s waiver wire this week.  With how well Matt Ryan is throwing the ball and how consistently he's finding his tight end between the hash marks, Tamme has to be considered by fantasy owners in need at the position.

Dennis Pitta, Baltimore Ravens

Did you listen to me last week when I told you to pick Pitta up? No?

While I am sure Pitta was picked up in a handful of leagues, he is probably still available in most fantasy leagues. But he won’t be for long after his big performance this past Sunday. Pitta cemented his candidacy as a Comeback Player of the Year frontrunner by catching nine Joe Flacco passes for 102 yards against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2.  He looked like the Dennis Pitta who had 669 yards and seven scores back in 2012 before two hip surgeries limited him to just seven games between 2013 and 2015.

Pitta leads Baltimore in receptions, yards, targets and even 20-yard receptions.  He and speed-burner Mike Wallace have been pleasant surprises for Ravens fans and fantasy owners the first two weeks.  Pitta should continue to be a fantasy force (and an inspiration) as long as he stays healthy.

Vance McDonald, San Francisco 49ers

Two weeks, two touchdowns...and one was a 75-yarder! That’s all I need to know, how about you?  McDonald is not exactly drowning in targets, but when Blaine Gabbert does look his way McDonald is definitely making the most of his opportunities.

McDonald is a beast to cover in the red zone due to his gargantuan size (6-4, 267), but his 75-yard touchdown showed that he has some underrated wheels to go along with that size.  He is a former second-round pick, so even though he had not shown much in his first three NFL seasons, maybe McDonald is finally reaching his potential.

McDonald has surpassed Garrett Celek as San Francisco’s top tight end in the early going, and with Gabbert and the 49ers offense playing much better than any football expert or fantasy prognosticator could have predicted, McDonald may not be a flash in the proverbial pan.

Other Options

Charles Clay, Buffalo Bills

Clay has been a disappointment in the eyes of many fantasy owners (and Buffalo fans) since signing with the Bills last year, but the firing of run-addicted Greg Roman might turn into more pass attempts for Tyrod Taylor.  If that holds true, Clay should certainly see additional targets in the coming weeks, especially if Sammy Watkins’ weekly injuries keep him off the field.

Lance Kendricks, St. Louis Rams

I know Case Keenum and Kendricks will never be confused with Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, but Kendricks had 61 yards against Seattle last weekend and this weekend faces a Tampa Bay defense that allowed Matt Ryan and Carson Palmer to rip them to shreds for 640 yards and five touchdowns during their first two contests of the campaign.

Jordan Cameron, Miami Dolphins

I am not completely sold on Cameron since his 49 yards and a TD against New England came after Ryan Tannehill through the ball about 700 times.  That said, Cameron gets to run patterns against the hapless Cleveland this upcoming week, and Miami has five of its next six games at home.
