ANALYSIS: Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren was competing for the starting job throughout training camp alongside veteran Kenneth Gainwell and rookie Kaleb Johnson. While Johnson was deployed as the clear No. 3 option during their Week 1 victory over the Jets, Gainwell and Warren typically split the starting duties.
Warren carried the ball 11 times for 37 yards and added 22 yards and a score on two receptions. Gainwell took seven carries for a mere 19 yards but saw four targets in the passing game and was only able to bring in three of them.
While Warren appears to have his ceiling limited at the moment, given his much higher efficiency, fantasy managers should not be overly concerned with his outlook going forward. In 2024, Warren posted a solid 4.3 YPC and 8.2 YPC. If Gainwell continues to struggle with his attempts, the Steelers will likely turn to Warren to take on a heavier load, given his previous success in the offense.
Gainwell could continue to limit Warren's ceiling this weekend, but facing a Seahawks defense that allowed the second-most PPR points to RBs in Week 1 should put Warren in a great spot to emerge as the top option. Christian McCaffrey dominated as a pass catcher against them last week, and Warren should find similar success.
He is a high-floor RB2 in PPR formats and a solid flex option in standard/half-PPR leagues. Warren has the perfect matchup to establish himself as Pittsburgh's RB1.
