Xavier Edwards Doing Baseball Activities
Xavier Edwards (back) continue to do baseball activities during his rehab from a left mid-back strain, according to MLB.com's Christina De Nicola. Edwards landed on the 10-day injured list back on May 18. It's good news that he's doing baseball activities, but he has yet to face live pitching and will most likely need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before being activated from the IL. Barring a setback, it will probably be another week or two before he has a chance to return. But when he does, Edwards will return to being Miami's starting shortstop. The 25-year-old switch-hitter doesn't have any power, but he's a speed threat at the position after stealing 31 bags in 70 games last year. Before his injury, Edwards was slashing .263/.337/.292 with no homers, 11 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 42 games played.
