Nolan Arenado Hitting Sixth on Monday
Nolan Arenado has been dropped to the sixth spot in the lineup for Monday's series opener against the visiting Detroit Tigers and left-handed opener Sean Guenther. Monday's contest will be the first time that Arenado has hit anywhere other than the cleanup spot for the Red Birds. The move down the batting order comes after he's gone 3-for-25 (.120) with two RBI, two runs, a walk and four strikeouts in six games since May 12. He's hitting .254 (15-for-59) with a homer, double, five RBI and eight runs scored in 15 games in the month of May, and Arenado only has four long balls in his first 166 at-bats on the season. The former Colorado Rockies star has shown diminished power with St. Louis the last couple years, and it has continued into 2025. Arenado has never faced Guenther in his career.
