ANALYSIS: The death of Javonte Williams has been greatly exaggerated. Earlier in training camp, it was speculated that Williams could be a potential cut candidate. He's now locked in as the Broncos' starting running back and a high-floor RB2.
Because of a new scheme and defensive-minded head coach in Seattle (Denver's Week 1 opponent), looking at last year's defensive data isn't relevant. What is relevant is Sean Payton's tendency to utilize his running backs and Williams' health.
Williams caught a career-high 47 passes last season. From Reggie Bush to Mark Ingram to Alvin Kamara, throwing to running backs is a staple of Payton's system. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix attempted short-area passes at a 69-percent clip during his final season at Oregon. Payton's teams are also almost always in the league's top half in run rate. It's a match made in running back heaven.

Now almost two years removed from an ACL injury, Williams looks like the promising talent who totaled 1,219 yards in his debut campaign. The Broncos will use Jaleel McLaughlin and we may see Audric Estime for a few snaps, but Williams is still in line for 15+ touches to begin the season.
