When Will Dawson Knox Return and Be Back? Fantasy Football Injury Update

dawson knox fantasy football rankings NFL DFS lineup picks

When will Dawson Knox return and play? Will Dawson Knox return this season? Read the latest Dawson Knox injury updates and return date for Week 14 (2023).

The Dalton Kincaid breakout stretch has been a treat for fantasy football managers but it could come crashing down when Dawson Knox returns.

Knox, the incumbent starter when the Bills selected Kincaid in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, was on the field for a ton of snaps before suffering a wrist injury that landed him on injured reserve. But the team was quick to get their tight end of the future involved as well.

Like a running back committee approach, the pair may cannibalize each other's production, or Kincaid's breakout may relegate Knox to the sidelines often. We could get the answers to those questions sooner, rather than later.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Dawson Knox Latest Injury Update - December 7

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) said he's feeling "fresh" as he gets set to return from Injured Reserve. The Bills opened up Knox's 21-day practice window this week, and they could officially activate him on Saturday so that he can suit up on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs for the first time since Week 7. Knox put in a full practice on Wednesday and appears ready to go for Week 14.

The 27-year-old had been taking a back seat to impressive rookie Dalton Kincaid, though, so there's no reason to believe that Knox will come in after a long injury layoff and suddenly have a significant role in the passing game, especially in his first game back. Still, Knox's impending return isn't great news for fantasy managers that have been enjoying all the targets that Kincaid has been seeing.

Dawson Knox Injury Update for Fantasy Football

Knox has missed the last five games with his wrist ailment. Bills head coach Sean McDermott provided a cautiously optimistic approach when discussing the tight end's return following their bye week.

The Bills can use all the help they can get. With a 6-6 record and upcoming matchups against Kansas City and Dallas, Buffalo is outside of the playoff picture. Whether blocking or receiving, Knox provides a boost in both departments. Currently, the Bills are using Kincaid more for his receiving prowess, and substituting Quintin Morris for certain blocking schemes.

Dawson Knox Fantasy Football Outlook

Early in the season, the Bills used Kincaid and Knox together. Both played over 50% of the snaps in every game that they were active. Kincaid's time on the field jumped exponentially when Knox went to injured reserve. That coincided with the emergence of the third wide receiver, Khalil Shakir. The Buffalo coaching staff may opt to keep Shakir in the game plan, which would spell trouble for Knox and Kincaid.

Regardless of which direction McDermott and Co. go, Knox won't be on fantasy football radars in redraft leagues when he returns. Kincaid should remain the primary pass-catching option at the position. The snap counts for Shakir, Kincaid, and Knox moving forward will be worth watching. Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis aren't coming out of the game.

Knox could ruin the fun that fantasy managers are having with Kincaid but don't expect Knox to replicate the production that the rookie has been giving.
