Alec Pierce is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for wide receivers. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 10 of the 2023 NFL season.

ANALYSIS: There are two competing things that are true about Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce: he plays a ton of snaps and he's also failed to produce this season.
Pierce has played over 90% of Indianapolis' snaps in all but one game this season, including three games where he played every single snap. Despite this, he hasn't really done much. Pierce has yet to find the end zone, and he has just one game with more than 50 receiving yards.
Take Week 9 for example. Pierce played all 61 snaps for the Colts, but he was only targeted twice. He didn't catch either pass. This is despite the fact that he had 100% route participation in the game. Quarterback Gardner Minshew just isn't looking his way.
So, why bring Pierce up as a waiver wire option? Because rookie Josh Downs suffered a knee injury in Week 9. As of now, his status for Week 10 against the Patriots is unclear.
If Downs is out, you have to think there's some added upside with Pierce, right? He's always on the field. He's always running routes. Take one of Minshew's favorite options out of the equation and Pierce has to get more targets, right?
That's what I'm telling myself. Despite his lack of production, there's deep league appeal here if—and only if—Downs misses any time with his knee injury.
