The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenseman Simon Benoit to a one-year, $775,000 contract. The 24-year-old is switching teams as a free agent after the Anaheim Ducks didn't extend a qualifying offer to him. Benoit skated in 137 games with the Ducks, posting 15 points (four goals, 11 assists). He made 78 appearances in 2022-23, scoring three goals and recording seven assists with 128 blocks and 216 hits. The Maple Leafs now have eight blue-liners on the books for the 2023-24 campaign, meaning Benoit has a battle on his hands to earn a spot on the team.--Taavi PailkRead More News
