The New York Jets have traded wide receiver Elijah Moore to the Cleveland Browns. In return, the two teams will swap Day 2 draft picks.

Moore had an impressive rookie season. He was the WR48, averaging 10.6 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Furthermore, he was the WR2 over his final six games of the 2021 season, averaging 16.1 fantasy points per contest.

Unfortunately, the former Ole Miss star had an awful 2022 season. He scored more than nine fantasy points only once. Furthermore, Moore asked for a trade during the year, but the Jets refused.

What Does Elijah Moore’s Departure Mean For The Jets?

However, things changed for the Jets. New York signed Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman in free agency. While they released Braxton Berrios before the start of free agency, their wide receiver room became crowded. Meanwhile, Garrett Wilson is coming off an impressive rookie season, totaling 83 receptions on 147 targets for 1,103 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

More importantly, the additions of Lazard and Hardman made Moore expendable. The Jets sent the former Ole Miss star and the 74th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to the Browns for the 42nd overall selection.

New York will now have back-to-back picks in the second round this year. More importantly, the team now owns three top-43 selections to trade Green Bay for Aaron Rodgers. While giving up on Moore only 27 games into his career wasn’t ideal, the Jets are now in a better position to acquire the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Is Elijah Moore A Good Fit With The Browns?

The Browns got a steal with Moore. He is under contract for two more years. Furthermore, he will cost the team less than $3.4 million. Despite his struggles last year, the former Ole Miss star flashed star potential as a rookie and just needs a fresh start.

Furthermore, many expected Cleveland to use their second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft on a wide receiver. Instead, they get a more talented player with NFL experience already on his resume. More importantly, the Browns also received a third-round pick in the trade, allowing them to address their other needs in the draft.

Amari Cooper remains the No. 1 wide receiver in Cleveland. However, Moore should replace Donovan Peoples-Jones as the No. 2 wide receiver. Meanwhile, the Browns will reportedly become a more pass-happy team this upcoming season in Deshaun Watson’s first full year in Cleveland. Therefore, fantasy players should be optimistic about Moore’s fantasy future.
