Josh Jung is a 2023 fantasy baseball draft sleeper at 3B and an ADP draft value. Target Jung as an undervalued 3B in fantasy baseball drafts.
BALLER MOVE: Draft target ~pick 205
CURRENT ADP: ~220 overall
ANALYSIS: Okay, a preseason injury last year ruined this but we’re back for more. As a reminder, Jung turned 342 plate appearances split between Double- and Triple-A last year into 19 homers with a .326/.398/.592 slash line (.413 BABIP. Thanks, Round Rock!). Jung’s September cup of coffee yielded five taters and two steals over 26 games, but the .204/.235/.418 slash line with a 38.2% strikeout rate houses a few red flags.
He makes loud contact and sprays the ball well, but he’s not breaking BABIP records any time soon. The man trains with Rapsodo and is very much a hitting nerd per this interview with Fangraphs’ David Laurila. He’s hungry to succeed and willing to put in the work to become a successful, refined hitter no matter what level the competition is.
The Rangers have invested in the heart of the order and Jung should bat around sixth, catching the end of the peak’s production wave. Hopefully, a full offseason after a marred 2022 campaign will yield more comfort in the batter’s box for a higher average. If he strikes out around 30% or more of the time then expect the playing time to dip with Ezequiel Duran stepping in. It’s worth the draft cost to find out!
