Cam Thomas is worth considering as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 19 of the 2022-23 NBA season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 34% of leagues
ANALYSIS: After the Nets decided it was time to move on from Kyrie Irving, Cam Thomas was shown the bright light of the Brooklynite day, started three consecutive games, and bagged 47, 43, and 20 points in those after dumping 44 in the one matchup before that run.
Of course, then Kevin Durant got traded to Phoenix and Brooklyn landed a bunch of reasonably better and more proven wings that sent Thomas back to the pine, hurting his value and his upside for fantasy GMs. Even then, though, it's not that Brooklyn, this New Brooklyn, is in such a strong position to pass on playing a great young man in Thomas.
In the nine games played from January 30 through the break, Thomas has scored 234 points total for an average of 26 PPG. He's hit 20+ in five of those matches, 19 in two other, and hit 44, 47, and 43 in three straight outings, making it to the history books of the Association. I'm sorry, but that sustained (even in a small nine-game span) production doesn't feel like a fluke.
The upside is so massive and the what-if is so big that you shouldn't be leaving Thomas sitting in your league's WW for long, if at all, no matter the depth or format of the competition. It makes all of the sense to at least stash him on your bench because Thomas has shown more than enough to become a prime NBA player, even more down the road and ROS.
Thomas comes with the obvious scoring prowess but also boasts some nice rebounding and diming chops, mind you.
