Derrick White (PG, BOS) - Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 18

Derrick White is worth considering as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 18 of the 2022-23 NBA season.

ANALYSIS: First and foremost, Marcus Smart doesn't seem to be quite ready to make his return to the court yet. Even then, though, and with the All-Star break right around the corner at the end of this week, it wouldn't make much sense to rush him back for the final three games before the ASG.

Not that Derrick White will be losing his starting role when Smart returns, but with the "official" PG out of commission, White has been absolutely ridiculous. In fact, he's coming off his season-best game (career-best, perhaps) after putting up a 33-3-10-1-3 line against Charlotte on Friday for 65 FP.

White hit eight (!!!) three-point shots against the Hornets, shot 63.2% from the field while hoisting a monster 19 FGA through 37 minutes of play, turned the ball once vs. dishing out 10 dimes, and blocked three shots while at it. That's just ridiculous. That's also something he hadn't done before, nor will be doing nightly going forward, but even lowering those gaudy highs a bit, White is still wildly under-rostered at this point through the season.

From January 21 on (included), White has started 10 consecutive games. He's averaged 33 MPG in which he's produced an average line of 18-4-4, blocking 1.2 shots per game. He's missed on scoring double-digit points just once (in his first start, eight PTS) while shooting a sound 50.7% from the field in that span, hitting 27 total 3PM for an average of nearly three 3PM per game.

White has scored at least 2+ 3PM in nine consecutive games and in 12 of his last 14. He barely turns the ball over, and he boasts great rebounding numbers for a combo guard. Don't worry about Smart's return. White will retain most of his value ROS just with a slight dip in PPG.
