Three top fantasy baseball prospects - Bubba Chandler, Samuel Basallo, Chase Burns - that can make big impacts. These MLB prospects are waiver wire pickups or stashes.

Even though we are just entering June, we have seen several high-impact prospects reach the major leagues and make an impact. For example, Kansas City Royals left-handed pitching prospect Noah Cameron has looked the part, while young Mimai backstop Agustin Ramirez has continued to showcase his high upside for power.

In this piece, we will look at three of the top prospects in the sport and determine if they should be stashed. All three of these prospects currently reside at the Triple-A level, but do they have a path to carry value in 2025 fantasy baseball?

So, let's dive in and see if these three prospects should be stashed or grabbed off the waiver wire and what their outlook is once they reach the majors.

Samuel Basallo, C, Baltimore Orioles

Current Level: Triple-A
Availability: 10% rostered
2025 MiLB stats: 39 G, .252/.365/.595, 13 HRs, 26 RBI, 26 R, 39 SO, 23 BB

Slammin' Samuel Basallo is trying his darndest to slam his way from Triple-A Norfolk to Baltimore right now. Over his last 21 games, Basallo is slashing .290/.430/.754 with five doubles, nine home runs, and 16 walks.

For the season, Basallo is now up to 13 home runs in 39 games with a 93.4 mph AVG EV, 55.6% hard-hit rate, and a 22.2% barrel rate. However, Basallo is below-average in both overall (66.3%) and zone (78.3%) right now. That's not a major concern, though.

This is an excellent sign for the No. 16-ranked prospect in baseball (and top-ranked in the Baltimore system) as he struggled during his first taste of Triple-A action last summer. Across his first 21 contests with the Norfolk Tides, Basallo posted a disappointing .222/.267/.370 slash line with just three doubles and three home runs.

During this stretch, Basallo struck out 27 times and drew just five walks.

Earlier in the 2024 campaign, Basall0 showed high power upside at Double-A, where he posted an impressive .289/.355/.465 line with 22 doubles and 16 round-trippers across 106 games.

Coby Mayo has started four of the last six games between first base and DH, but continues to underwhelm at the plate. Typical starting first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (hamstring) is expected to miss the next 8-12 weeks with a Grade 2 hamstring. This could open the door for Basallo to eventually take opportunities at first base from May, especially if he remains in a slump.

If they make the swap, I could see Basallo playing regularly between first base, DH, and backing up Adley Rutschman.

Chase Burns, SP, Cincinnati Reds

Current Level: Triple-A

2025 MiLB stats: 53 2/3 2/3 IP, 1.68 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, 75 SO, 9 BB

The Reds selected Chase Burns with the second overall pick in last year's MLB Draft out of Wake Forest. However, the Reds opted for Burns to make his professional debut during the 2025 campaign, rather than in the final months of the 2024 campaign, like his fellow rookies.

Burns began his professional career with High-A but needed just three starts to prove he was ready for Double-A. Across 11 2/3 innings at High-A Dyaton, the hard-throwing right-hander struck out 20 batters while allowing just five free passes. He held a 3.09 ERA with a stellar 0.86 WHIP.

After giving Double-A hitters nightmares that would put Freddy Krueger out of business, Burns is getting the bump to Triple-A and is one step closer to reaching Cincinnati. In eight Double-A starts, Burns posted a pristine 1.29 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, 2.6% walk rate, and a 36.4% strikeout rate.

In my June prospect rankings update, Burns vaulted over Bubba Chandler and Andrew Painter to take over the top pitching prospect spot.

While his future home ballpark isn't ideal, Burns has the potential to form one of the best one-two punches in baseball with Hunter Greene once he reaches Cincinnati.

Burns has shown plus command and control over his four-pitch mix, headlined by an elite 4-seam fastball and slider. With him now in Triple-A, a debut after the All-Star break appears likely, especially if the Reds are still in the National League Wild Card hunt.

Currently, Wade Miley holds the final spot in the starting rotation but has struggled, posting a hefty 9.00 ERA with a 2.14 WHIP across his first seven innings (two starts) of the campaign. If Miley continues to struggle and Bruns carries this momentum into Triple-A, he could reach the majors much sooner than expected.

Bubba Chandler, SP, Pittsburgh Pirates

Current Level: Triple-A

2025 AAA stats: 50 2/3 IP, 2.49 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 70  SO, 22 BB

We're starting this week's column the same way we have started every column so far, with Bubba Chandler. The No. 2-ranked prospect in baseball, only behind Boston's Roman Anthony, has continued to dominate Triple-A and is on the verge of his MLB debut.

However, in his most recent outing, Chandler took a slight step back. In this start, the right-hander logged just two innings of work and allowed three runs and four hits. He served up one walk and tallied one punchout.

Prior to this disappointing outing, Chandler logged five shutout frames with four hits, one walk, and tallied eight punchouts.

Through 50 2/3 innings of work this season, the right-hander has posted a 2.49 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP. During this stretch, Chandler has struck out an eye-catching 70 batters while allowing just 22 free passes.

Last season, Chandler made his Triple-A debut and found similar success during his first taste of Indianapolis, holding a 1.83 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP across 39 1/3 innings of work.

Even though the Priaets have opted to promote Mike Burrows before Chandler, he remains a must-stash option in all leagues. When he gets the call, he will carry high-end upside in all formats given his strikeout potential and strong command.
