Tua Tagovailoa is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for quarterbacks. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 12 of the 2021 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 45% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Tua Tagovailoa has had a rough season mostly because of his injuries. Other than that, though, he's been a lock to start for the Fins in all games he's been healthy enough to doing so with the exception of W10, in which he was forced into action relieving Jacoby Brissett and putting on a nice 8-of-13 completion, 158-yard performance against the Ravens in which Tua went on to score a touchdown on the ground even on a low three-carry rushing volume. Tua came back to start this past Sunday and he did enough to close the week as a top-10 player at the position.
I guess the main/only knock to Tua's upside is the one discussed in the intro: health issues and injuries. If this man was a lock to make it to the final line unscathed, then I'd be 100% convinced of rostering and starting him weekly. He's that good, seriously. He might have booming games often, he might be an interception-throwing machine weekly, but he more than makes up for that with his rushing prowess/TDs.
You might find it hard to believe, but Tua has finished all games he's finished this year within the top-20 quarterbacks in fantasy football--yes, that includes his W10 short-time off-the-pine game. Tua has had three QB1 finishes already this season and is coming off his second-best match of the year (27-of-33, 273 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT). With Miami's Bye week already in the rearview mirror, I don't think you will be able to find you a starting QB ROS better than Tua sitting on your league's WW this deep into the season if you're part of a super-deep/super-flex/2QB competition.
