ANALYSIS: Back in November when the Lakers didn't know what the hell they were doing Troy Brown Jr. started 16 consecutive games. Of course, that ended up changing and TBJ hit the pine on most games between the start of December and mid-January. Now that the injury bug has hit LAL once more, though, Brown is back manning the starting SF role.
Brown has strung six consecutive starts at the SF position through Friday's matchup against Toronto. In this recent span, Brown's usage rate has been rather mediocre at a measly 12% but he's still found a way to average 21 FPPG and put up a per-game 10-4-4-1 stat line. That's nothing incredible, but LeBron James is injured and the Lakers are winning and all of that means TBJ will keep his role intact at least for a few more games.
The field-goal attempts are low with Brown hoisting no more than 10 field goals since Jan. 20 and only reaching double-digit FGAs in three of his last 21 games. That said, in the five games he's played this month he's hit 21-of-39 of the shots he's taken for a nice 53.8% success from the field to go with an average of 2.8 3PM per game.
Obviously, the role isn't the most optimal but the minutes are sky-high and that alone helps him to reach some usable production if only on pure brute force.
