BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 9% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: The Seahawks might not be in such a great position as their former QB could put them into, but current veteran starter Geno Smith has been much better than advertised. Smith, who overtook younger Drew Lock in the race for the QB1 role, has looked rather nice in his three games this season and, although he endured his second defeat of the early campaign against Atlanta last Sunday, he also completed his best game through three weeks of play.
Smith reached 16.2 FP in Week 1 (QB15) but then laid an egg in Week 2 scoring just 7.1 (QB29) at San Francisco. He definitely bounced back last Sunday with his best game of the season to the tune of a 19.9-PPR performance that included a ridiculous 44 pass attempts with 32 completions for 325 yards and two TDs against only one interception.
Smith has attempted at least 28 passes in all three of his games, and he's always completed a minimum of 72.8% of his passes for 195+ yards. Geno Smith is, in fact, above Russell Wilson in total FP through W3 (43.2 to 38.9) and has completed 20% more of the passes he's attempted on nearly a similar volume (102 Smith, 106 Wilson). Geno also has four TDs to Wilson's two.
The truth is that Smith has played to high-end QB2 levels but no more than that so far. He should not be on your WW radar unless you're meaning in a deeper league, at least for now.
That said, and with bye weeks around the corner, Geno Smith hasn't really looked that bad for a fantasy-backup QB and could be a nice option to have rostered in case of an injury/bye from your weekly starter.
Also, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett had rough starts to their 2022 seasons but seem to finally be on track to their usual exploits with WR2-level outings in one (Metcalf) and two (Lockett) of the past three weeks. That will only help Geno Smith going forward.
