The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports that the San Francisco 49ers' "optimism seems to have run out" that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (knee) would report to the team ready to practice. Aiyuk has yet to play this season as he recovers from a serious knee injury that ended his 2024 season in Week 7. The team voided guaranteed money on Aiyuk's contract for the 2026 season, which seems to be a sticking point for the wide receiver as well. It's not entirely clear if Aiyuk will ever play another game for San Francisco, but Russini reports that she "expect(s) a resolution sooner rather than later." In Aiyuk's last fully healthy season, he recorded 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns on 105 targets across 16 games in 2023. If Aiyuk's time in San Francisco is coming to a close, he would surely have interest from teams on the open market.--Will Brady
