ANALYSIS: Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins was projected to immediately slot in as the team's RB1 after being drafted in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Judkins played a key role in Ohio State's National Championship-winning team during the 2024 season.
However, in the offseason, Judkins was arrested for domestic assault. Although his prosecutors ultimately dropped the charges, the league is still expected to conduct its own investigation. While this situation has been going on, Judkins remained unsigned and was not with the team.
This paved the way for veteran running back Jerome Ford and fellow rookie Dylan Sampson to see time with the starters during training camp and the entirety of the preseason.
However, earlier this week, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported that Judkins is nearing a return to the team and could be eligible to participate in their season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his status, as Judkins could be cleared to enter the lineup in Week 1 if he can sign his contract in the coming days.
While he may play in Week 1, it is best to leave him on your bench. Given that he missed the majority of training camp, he will likely need a few weeks to be brought up to speed and to learn the playbook. In addition, reports suggest that Ford is likely to serve as the team's primary option in Week 1.
However, Judkins should still be in the mix to take over starting duties fairly early in the regular season, but projects to be a risky RB4 in Week 1.
