Yariel Rodriguez Comes To Camp As Starter
10 months agoToronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed that Cuban right-hander Yariel Roriguez comes to camp as a starting pitcher, but the club will be cautious with his workload in spring training because of his long layoff. The Blue Jays added the 26-year-old this offseason on a four-year, $32 million deal with the intention of making him a starter in the long-term, but fantasy managers are going to need to be patient since he didn't pitch anywhere at all in 2023 and was a reliever the year before that while pitching in Japan. Rodriguez also had a walk rate approaching 11 percent in 2022 while pitching overseas. Don't be surprised if he begins the 2024 season in the minors so that the Blue Jays can slowly build up his innings, but either way, he's going to be on an innings limit in his first year in the States.
